Entertainment space on Fly Mobile's radar

Mobile handset brand of UK based Meridian Group, Fly Mobile is eyeing the entertainment-on-the-move and social networking space for the Gujarat market. Looking primarily at urban areas like Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat in the state for these segments, Fly Mobile expects a 15,000-20,000 handsets per month sales in Gujarat.


"Some of the verticals we are focused for Gujarat are 'entertainment-on-the-move' and 'social networking' with much more urban focus like Ahmedabad and Vadodara. We have been closely studying the market and have found that these segments are primarily driving the market in Gujarat. Hence, we would be looking at handsets catering to such specific demands," said Prem Kumar, chief executive officer, Fly India.


At Rs 2,500-3,000, the average selling price (ASP) of mobile handsets in Gujarat is higher than some of the other states. "This is because it is a discerning population in Gujarat which is willing to buy phones in a pragmatic manner. We would, therefore, also be looking to launch 3G as well as Android phones in near future in Gujarat," Kumar added.


The three broad formats that Fly Mobile intends to cater to in Gujarat includes BAR, QWERTY and full touch phones.


Recently, the company also launched 'Fly ICON B470' across the country. Apart from pre-installed applications like Nimbuzz and Snaptu, the phone comes with a 3.2 mega pixel in-built camera, expandable memory up to 8 GB, Bluetooth, GPRS and USB connector, among other things.


The Fly ICON B470 also has upto 11 hours talk time, minimum 10 days standby time, only six hours battery consumption by Wi-Fi utility, 1000 phone book entries with photo caller ID, 500 SMS storage, FM radio with schedule recording, and world clock.


Meanwhile, by next year, Fly Mobile intends to double the sales target of 15,000-20,000 per month to 45,000-50,000 handsets per month in Gujarat.
